Johannesburg – Well known actress Pamela Nomvete has confirmed that her long running attempt to renew her South African passport has been resolved, bringing relief to supporters in Eswatini and across the region who have followed her story closely.
Nomvete, who lives in the United Kingdom and is known across Southern Africa for her roles in Generations, Lockdown and several theatre productions, had earlier shared her frustration over the stalled renewal process. She also revealed that her expired passport had left her uncertain about when she would be able to return to South Africa.
The actress was born in Ethiopia while her parents were in exile and holds both South African and British citizenship. Her latest update was posted on Friday 14 November 2025, where she confirmed that the matter had been finalised.
She thanked supporters for standing with her throughout the process and said the turnaround by the Department of Home Affairs had brought hope to many South Africans living abroad who struggle with similar delays. She added that the issue had drawn government level attention regarding how dual citizens are treated.
Local performers in Eswatini who have worked with South African creatives were among those who reacted to the news, noting that administrative hurdles often disrupt the movement of regional artists who contribute to film and theatre on both sides of the border.
South African colleagues Lorcia Cooper, Aubrey Poo and Themba Ndaba were among those who offered words of comfort and solidarity on social media while fans flooded her page with congratulations following the announcement this week.
