Manzini – The agricultural sector in the Manzini Region has received a major boost following the successful completion and handover of the Mphembekati dip tank, a project funded through the Rural Development Fund (RDF) under the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development.
The dip tank was officially handed over yesterday by the Minister of Agriculture, Honourable Mandla Tshawuke, who described the project as a significant investment in livestock health and community development. The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development’s Microprojects Programme implemented the project through the RDF mechanism.
Speaking during the event, Minister Tshawuke said the facility would serve as a vital centre for animal health services, including dipping, vaccinations, auction sales, and general stock management. He emphasised that the infrastructure was not merely a physical structure, but a strategic resource aimed at improving farming efficiency and productivity.
He encouraged farmers in the area to shift towards commercial livestock production, noting that recognising livestock as a valuable economic asset was essential for improving household incomes. “This dip tank opens new opportunities for fair and transparent auction sales, enabling farmers to secure better prices for their animals,” he said.
Community involvement was central to the project’s success, with 189 livestock owners contributing to its completion. Minister Tshawuke commended their commitment to development, stating that their efforts reflected a deep sense of responsibility and dedication to improving livelihoods.
Chief Jokovu Dlamini welcomed the gathering and applauded the participation of communities from Manzini North, Ekhanyeni and Mphembekati. He noted that their cooperation had been instrumental in achieving this milestone.

RDF Programme Manager, Mrs. Vilane, also expressed gratitude to the residents for their collaboration. She urged the community to take full ownership of the dip tank and ensure its proper maintenance, highlighting that sustainability would depend on collective responsibility.
