Oshoek – The serious organised crime investigation unit of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Hawks, foiled the smuggling of mandrax tablets from Eswatini to South Africa through the Oshoek port of entry.
South African citizens, both the driver (33) and a 40-year-old partner in crime, were arrested on Wednesday and are expected to appear at the Elukwatini District Court today.
According to the SAPS media desk, the Hawks intercepted a South African truck carrying not only mandrax but also dagga, both estimated at R900 000.00, and a total of R7 800 and Emalangeni notes.
They responded to a call from SAPS members attached to the Oshoek border post.
The police say the truck was coming from the Kingdom of Eswatini to South Africa, at Oshoek, yesterday.
“Upon searching the truck, mandrax tablets and dagga were found concealed inside suspicious-looking boxes and plastic bags,” the police say.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga, Major General Nico Gerber, is quoted as having said that the Hawks in Mpumalanga, and nationally, will continue working closely with other units since the #saferFestiveSeason operation was launched.
