Lobamba Police are investigating a case of theft by false pretence reported on 11 November 2025 at around 7 am. A 51-year-old woman from Mlindazwe told authorities she was defrauded of more than E157,900 by a man she knew.
The woman said she approached her neighbour, who claimed to own a construction company, for help in building her house. Trusting him, she made several payments between September and October 2025 to fund the project.
Problems arose when she noticed that only the foundation of the house had been laid despite her payments. She then hired a professional to inspect the site, and the report confirmed that no further work had been done.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect deceived the woman into making multiple cash payments under the promise of completing her home. The Royal Eswatini Police Service is continuing its investigations and working to apprehend the suspect.
