Maanzini – The Municipal Council of Manzini says it is advancing a development strategy that will shape the city until 2030, even as it continues to navigate economic and environmental pressures that characterised the 2024/25 reporting year.
This is highlighted in the Annual Accountability Report and reinforced by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lungile Dlamini, when delivering her remarks at the Manzini City Annual General Meeting on Monday.
Dr. Dlamini described the performance of the municipality during the year as difficult, citing socio-economic constraints, environmental challenges and fiscal pressure. Despite these, she said the municipality managed to manoeuvre the situation and continue fulfilling its mandate to develop the city and provide essential services to residents and businesses.
A key milestone of the year was finalising the Integrated Development Plan for 2024-2030. The plan, completed after extensive consultations that involved more than 800 stakeholders, will be the framework guiding Manzini’s growth over the next five years. It focuses on leveraging digital technology for improved service delivery, strengthening environmental sustainability, enhancing quality of life, and driving economic growth. Dr Dlamini said the strategy will be achieved through effective collaboration and partnerships with ratepayers, government, business and civil society.
The municipality maintained engagement with residents through public meetings, communication platforms and digital channels. The 24-hour call centre, along with the customer management system, recorded 2,443 service requests, with the majority attended to. The CEO also credited teamwork among funding partners, construction service providers, volunteers and others who contributed to municipal performance during a challenging year.
The municipality also sustained implementation of ISO 9001:2015 standards, with an external audit confirming conformity.
