Mbabane – Toyota has unveiled the latest Hilux in Thailand, offering both diesel and electric versions. The model, known locally as the Hilux Travo, replaces the Hilux Revo and continues to use the IMV platform with updated single and double cab options. The Xtra Cab remains part of the lineup despite earlier reports of its removal.
The new Hilux measures 5 325 mm in length, 1 900 mm in width, and 1 815 mm in height, with a 3 085 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance remains at 225 mm, and towing capacity is rated at 3 500 kg for braked trailers. Toyota has upgraded the suspension and added electric power steering for the first time.

Engine options now focus on the 2.8 GD-6 turbodiesel, producing 150 kW/500 Nm or 165 kW/550 Nm in the GR Sport variant. Selected models retain a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, six-speed manual transmission, and six-speed automatic gearbox. The electric Hilux features dual motors powered by a 59.4-kWh battery with a 315 km range, with sales expected in early 2026 and a fuel-cell version planned for 2028.

Design changes give the Hilux sharper styling with influences from the Corolla Cross, Tacoma, and Volkswagen Amarok. Inside, the cabin mirrors the Land Cruiser Prado, with dual 12.3-inch displays, a flat centre console, rectangular air vents, and a two-piece dashboard.

Four-wheel-drive models keep a locking rear differential and an enhanced Multi-Terrain Select system offering six modes: Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Rock, the last requiring low-range 4L selection.
The ninth-generation Hilux is expected in South Africa next year, likely debuting at Toyota’s annual State of the Motor Industry conference before production begins at the Prospecton Plant in Durban.
