Ezulwini – The momentum toward economic transformation is building in Eswatini as the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade officially launched its first MSME conference, setting the tone for what promises to be a transformative gathering for the country’s entrepreneurs.
The conference’s subject, “Unlocking Opportunities for MSMEs in Eswatini,” aims to promote sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth throughout the Kingdom.
The Chief Executive Officer at Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), Khethiwe Mhlanga, expressed gratitude to the key partners who made the event possible—the European Union through the International Trade Centre (ITC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and First National Bank Eswatini (FNB).
She commended the tireless efforts of the organising team, highlighting that this platform was designed to empower local entrepreneurs to confront and overcome the barriers hindering MSME growth.
“Over the next three days, we aim to reimagine how we approach business development in Eswatini,” she said. “This is a call for all emaSwati to be intentional about empowering MSMEs in every Tinkhundla, ensuring that all entrepreneurs have equal access to opportunities and resources.”
Mhlanga noted with understanding that entrepreneurs need to embrace technology, from digital financial management and automation to e-commerce and marketing through platforms like the Buy Eswatini app.
“Collaboration between the public and private sectors remains essential in shaping policies that enable MSME growth,” she emphasised.
Highlighting ongoing national efforts, Mhlanga acknowledged SEDCO’s role in advancing entrepreneurship through incubation hubs (iHubs), such as the Piggs Peak iHub managed by Genesis Seven, which supports businesses in adopting new technologies for greater productivity and competitiveness.
“The Kingdom of Eswatini maintains membership with key strategic markets,” she said.
She noted that as an umbrella for MSMEs, it is their utmost intention to make a point that local products reach global markets.
