Mbabane – Nosipho Nonhlanhla Gama, 30, from Mahwalala, appeared in the Mbabane Magistrate Court today for shoplifting five blocks of 400g sliced cheese from a local Spar, valued at E325. She admitted to taking the items without paying and told the court she was “misled by the devil.”
Senior Magistrate Sfiso Vilakati presided over the hearing, which concluded swiftly after Gama acknowledged her actions and expressed remorse. During her mitigation, she said she had no intention of committing theft and described the act as a lapse in judgment influenced by spiritual forces.
Gama also revealed personal struggles, noting that she is the mother of a one-year-old child suffering from arrhythmia, a serious heart condition. She asked the court for leniency given her circumstances.
Magistrate Vilakati sentenced Gama to pay a fine of E1,000 or face one year in prison and warned her to refrain from similar acts in the future.
