Mbabane – Former Ngwempisi MP Mthandeni Dube has publicly rejected any association with the Swaziland Liberation Movement, clarifying he was unaware of his nomination as deputy president of the party.
SWALIMO, established by former Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi Simelane, had announced that Dube and former Hosea MP Mduduzi Mabuza would assume deputy leadership roles upon release from prison. Dube, speaking to the media after his parole, said he was never informed of the nomination, does not belong to any political party, and intends to remain a supporter of the Tinkhundla system of government.
Dube and Mabuza were previously arrested on terrorism charges. Simelane, facing a similar threat of arrest, fled first to South Africa and later sought asylum in the United Kingdom.
During a brief media address facilitated by His Majesty’s Correctional Services officials, Dube thanked Commissioner-General Phindile Dlamini and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane for their reception. He also expressed gratitude to King Mswati III and Queen Indlovukazi for granting him mercy after he acknowledged his mistakes and sought forgiveness, wishing the royal couple long life and hoping other inmates benefit from similar acts of clemency.
