Mbabane: The Kingdom of Eswatini has been elected by the United Nations General Assembly to serve as a Vice President for the 27th session of the UN General Assembly.
This was revealed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporations Thuli Dladla in a press statement issued on Wednesday, July 01. Dladla said that Eswatini has been elected for this position for the 21 membership Berea of the General Assembly for a period of one year beginning from this coming September.
Dladla said it is an honor and recognition of the excellent role played by the country under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mswati III and by extension, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporations and the permanent mission of the Kingdom of Eswatini to the United Nations in New York.
Dladla added that by virtue of this membership, Eswatini will get to participate in the crucial decision making process to drive the agenda of the General Assembly in matters involving amongst others implementation of the Agenda 2023, reform of the United Nations Security Council of which the UN General Assembly on Tuesday reported that Germany assumed Presidency of the Security Council.
Dladla said another crucial aspects the country will get to participate on is looking at effects of Coronavirus on member states of the United Nations.
