Mbabane – The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has confirmed that more than 3,000 power interruptions were reported over the weekend following a hailstorm that affected several parts of the country, with the Shiselweni Region being the hardest hit.
Areas such as Hluthi and Matsanjeni experienced severe disruptions as a result of the storm.
Speaking on Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS’s) breakfast show Letishisako, EEC marketing and corporate communications manager, Khaya Mabuza, said that from Saturday, the company received over 3,000 calls from customers reporting power interruptions. He said the utility company was working around the clock to ensure that power supply was restored as a matter of urgency.
Mabuza noted that some affected areas had already been attended to, while teams were being dispatched from different stations to reach hard-hit areas. He said this was part of efforts to bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible.
He explained that the exact time for full restoration could not be confirmed, as it depended on the extent of the damage in each affected area.
Mabuza further urged members of the public to continue reporting power interruptions caused by the storm so that EEC teams could respond promptly and attend to all affected customers.
