MBABANE – The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has received Solar Photovoltaic equipment valued at E1.5 million from the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority ESERA to support trade testing at the Directorate of Industrial and Vocational Training DIVT. The handover was received by DIVT Deputy Director Maqakala Dlamini on behalf of the Ministry’s Principal Secretary.
The donation aims to strengthen renewable energy skills development in Eswatini and was marked by an award ceremony recognising Swazi professionals accredited in PV Solar Photovoltaic installation.
Dlamini explained that engineers from the Eswatini Electricity Company initially approached DIVT to collaborate on accrediting Solar PV installers due to challenges in the sector. Unregulated installations were causing risks to grid stability and the safety of consumer appliances. Banking and insurance institutions also flagged concerns, noting difficulties in approving loans or insurance for systems installed by unaccredited personnel.
This was a clear call for structured training, quality assurance, and professional recognition in the Solar PV sector, said Dlamini. He noted that ESERA’s involvement ensures alignment with national regulatory frameworks and energy policy, strengthening collaboration between government, industry, and international partners.
The Deputy Director said awarding certificates to graduates represents more than individual achievement, marking the start of a new chapter for Eswatini’s renewable energy sector. Our graduates stand ready to contribute to energy access, economic development, and environmental sustainability. They are now part of a growing workforce that will power Eswatini’s future cleanly, safely, and confidently, Dlamini said.
