DAR ES SALAAM – Former Botswana President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi is in Tanzania as part of the African Union Election Observation Mission ahead of the country’s elections on 29 October 2025.

Masisi participated in a series of meetings with Tanzanian leaders, including a courtesy visit with President Samia Suluhu Hassan and discussions with Dr Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and CCM Presidential Candidate. The delegation also engaged with the National Independent Electoral Commission and the Registrar of Political Parties.

The mission brings together 72 observers from 31 African countries to monitor the electoral process and support democratic governance across the continent. Masisi described the schedule as “full and productive” and expressed pride in working alongside a diverse team committed to strengthening democracy in Africa.
