Lusaka – Zambia has pledged full support for the Trans-Africa Tourism and Unity campaign led by Ghanaian activist and former Member of Parliament, Ras Mubarak, which seeks to promote visa-free travel and stronger intra-African trade and tourism.
On Wednesday, 22 October 2025, Mubarak held a joint press briefing at the Ministry of Tourism in Lusaka after a meeting with Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Honourable Rodney Sikumba. He described the engagement as productive, noting that the Zambian government expressed complete support for the campaign’s objectives.
“The meeting was a success, and Zambia has expressed full support for our campaign’s goals. Removing visa restrictions and requirements across Africa will unlock the continent’s potential and create new avenues for economic growth,” Mubarak said. He stressed that the future of Africa depends on Africans being able to move freely across borders for trade and tourism.
The following day, Thursday, 23 October 2025, Mubarak and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency W.K. Mutale Nalumango, Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, at her office in Lusaka. During their discussions, the Vice President spoke of the urgent need for African nations to strengthen trade among themselves and invest in infrastructure that connects the continent. Mubarak said he fully shared her vision of a united and prosperous Africa.

“Zambia is the 17th country our Trans-Africa Tourism and Unity campaign has visited, and we are grateful for the warm reception. The Vice President spoke about the importance of Africans trading more among themselves and the need to develop infrastructure that will connect our continent,” he said.
Mubarak also shared that Vice President Nalumango gifted him a signed copy of her memoir True To Me, which he described as a compelling and inspiring read. “It was an honour to receive her autographed book when we visited her to discuss our campaign for a united and visa-free Africa,” he said.
As Zambia marked its 61st Independence anniversary on Friday, 24 October 2025, Mubarak extended his congratulations to President Hakainde Hichilema, the government, and the people of Zambia, wishing them joyous celebrations. “They’ve got an amazing and promising country,” he said.

The Trans-Africa Tourism and Unity campaign, which began 70 days ago, is scheduled to continue through 39 African countries over a 163-day journey. The team has so far covered 17 countries and will arrive in Malawi on Sunday, 26 October 2025, marking its 18th destination.
From the capital city Lilongwe, Mubarak’s team travelled an hour and a half to the Sunbird Livingstonia Waterfront Resort in the Salima District, on the picturesque shores of Lake Malawi, where the next leg of their campaign will continue.
