Washington, D.C. — The Southern African Development Community Secretariat, led by Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration Ms. Angèle Makombo N’tumba, participated in the grand finale of the #IMFWBGMeetings2025 on 18 October 2025. The event, titled State of the Africa Region Powering Job Creation in Africa, was hosted to bring together regional leaders, policymakers, and development partners to discuss transformative strategies for employment creation across the continent.
The dialogue drew on insights from the Africa’s Pulse October 2025 Report and focused on scaling up quality jobs by leveraging sectors of opportunity and the foundational building blocks of economic growth. Energy was a key topic, with speakers noting its role in powering businesses and industries, boosting productivity, driving innovation, and enhancing human capital development.
A major highlight was the Mission 300 program, an ambitious initiative aiming to provide affordable and reliable energy access to 300 million Africans. Organizers said the program is expected to support enterprise growth, raise productivity across multiple sectors, and extend decent employment opportunities to underserved and remote communities.
Ms. Makombo N’tumba attended the event with Dr. Mario Lironel, Senior Programme Officer for Finance and Investment, and Ms. Feziwe Masebula, Senior Officer for Planning and Programming at the SADC Secretariat. The delegation engaged with other regional stakeholders to discuss practical steps for boosting employment and economic development across the region.
