Ngwempisi Rural Development Area – The Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC) hosted a three-day workshop from 13 to 15 October, bringing together communities across Ngwempisi RDA to discuss biodiversity conservation through a gender lens.
Participants examined how access to land and water, decision-making, and sustainable livelihoods are shaped by gender dynamics. Discussions revealed extensive local knowledge in ecosystem management while noting limited participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in rural conservation efforts.
Community members called for a shift in mindset and accountability, noting that meaningful change begins at the household level and within local leadership. They stressed that women, youth, and persons with disabilities are ready to take leadership roles if provided with platforms, trust, and resources.
