NAIROBI — Former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister and a key figure in Kenya’s political landscape.
Kenyatta described Odinga as more than a political colleague, calling him a friend and brother whose influence shaped both his personal and public life. He recalled their journey from political rivals to partners in promoting national unity through the celebrated “Handshake” agreement, a symbol of reconciliation and shared patriotism.
“Baba, as we fondly called him, had an unwavering passion for Kenya, a deep belief in justice, and the ability to put national peace above personal ambition,” Kenyatta said in a statement on Wednesday.
Odinga’s leadership and dedication, Kenyatta added, left a lasting legacy not only in political reforms but in fostering peace and national cohesion. He extended condolences to Odinga’s wife, Mama Ida, the children, and the wider Odinga family, acknowledging the nation’s loss of a leader committed to the people.
