Lusaka – Mozambique’s National Service Commander, Major General Tiago Alberto Nampele, has expressed gratitude to Zambia for its support in stabilising Cabo Delgado Province through the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).
During a courtesy visit to Deputy Zambia Army Commander and Chief of Staff, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza, Maj Gen Nampele acknowledged Zambia’s contribution of ground and air power, saying their involvement has improved security and helped prevent the conflict from spreading to other provinces.
Maj Gen Sinyinza said the visit strengthens the long-standing cooperation between Zambia and Mozambique on counter-terrorism and regional security. He noted the shared interest in securing regional borders and disrupting logistical and financing networks used by armed groups.
The commanders also discussed enhancing military cooperation, including exchange programmes and joint training initiatives. Maj Gen Sinyinza highlighted the recently held Zambia-Mozambique Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security as a key step in reviewing existing collaboration.
Maj Gen Nampele’s delegation is touring the Zambia National Service, focusing on production units and defence industries to improve operational capabilities.
