No more beds for COVID-19 patients

Mbabane: As the numbers of confirmed cases especially the asymptomatic rapidly increasing, Mavuso Trade Centre has ran out of space already.

On June 19 it was reported that 92 beds were already occupied which leaves only 8 vacant beds whereas 35 asymptomatic patients were confirmed on Friday. This can be translated that on Friday only eight patients could be admitted at Mavuso and 27 could not be admitted for treatment at the Centre.

The total number of cases confirmed now stands at 623 with Shiselweni region showing rapid growing numbers as 22 cases confirmed in one day from the region.

Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi announced that 344 results were received on Friday of which 307 came out negative while 37 tested positive. Nkosi revealed that the number of active cases has increased to 306 while 276 of those cases have recovered and discharged.

Manzini is still the leading region with highest numbers of confirmed cases as 353 are from Manzini region. Hhohho region has recorded 140 cases and Lubombo reported 64 cases.

Most of the newly confirmed cases are asymptomatic and some have mild symptoms and a concern on that was raised as on June 19 a local newspaper reported that the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre has run out of space for asymptomatic patients. Dr Vusi Magagula said they government is preparing for the TB Centre for admitting COVID-19 patients and the TB patients will be transferred to Nhlangano.

Minister Nkosi encouraged the public to continue adhering to all health precautionary measures given by the ministry of health and World Health Organization. This include wearing of masks, washing hands with running water and soap and continuously observing social distancing.
