Kwaluseni – The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) has partnered with the European Union (EU) under the Erasmus+ programme to enhance graduate employability and promote conservation research in Eswatini.
Through the Upscaling Graduates’ Employability Tracking Project, UNESWA will participate in developing dual career paths in Botswana and Eswatini. Funded by the EU under grant number 101178037, the initiative involves nine institutions, four in Europe and five in Southern Africa.
The €884,676 (E22 million) project will establish a dedicated career centre at UNESWA to provide career counselling and graduate tracking services. It also includes the development of a dual education model in partnership with local industries to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace experience.
Project partners will undertake study visits to institutions in Poland, Spain, and Slovenia to benchmark international best practices in graduate tracking, mentorship, and dual education. The system will integrate internships, mentorship programmes, and tracking tools to monitor graduate outcomes and strengthen the link between higher education and economic growth. In addition, UNESWA’s Institute of Research continues to make strides in environmental conservation. With funding from the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, the institute is leading efforts to preserve endangered medicinal plants, including the African ginger (Sidvungule) and pepper-bark tree (Sibhaha).
