Kwaluseni – One thousand five hundred and ten graduated from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) in the 2024/25 academic year, marking an 18 percent increase from the previous period where 1,256 students graduated.
The graduates were conferred by His Majesty King Mswati III and UNESWA chancellor with degrees and award certificates as well as diplomas at the 43rd graduation ceremony held in Matsapha, Kwaluseni campus.
Forty seven of the graduates are master’s degree holders, 1,274 with degree, 15 diploma recipients include 174 certificate holders.
According to UNESWA Vice Chancellor Justice Thwala, the university continues to play a vital role in national development by introducing market responsive courses, producing professionals in various disciplines and the training law enforcement officers.
He revealed that through a collaboration between UNESWA and the police academy, a number of trained police officers were awarded diplomas in Police Science.
Thwala extended gratitude to the king and the government for their continued support through scholarships. The academic year saw 1,700 deserving emaSwati students awarded with government scholarships while the remainder were self-sponsored students.
This marks currently, 65 percent of the university’s 8,600 students who are government-sponsored. Out of this number, 5,600 are on scholarships, while 3,000 are self-sponsored.
Thwala also highlighted that the university is increasingly attracting international students. There are presently 145 students from outside Eswatini enrolled at UNESWA, representing all SADC countries as well as nations such as South Korea, Afghanistan, and Switzerland, among others.
He said this growing international diversity is a sign that UNESWA’s academic reputation continues to strengthen regionally and globally.
