Mbabane – A Pigg’s Peak man has discovered that compliments can come at a steep price after he was fined E500 which attached five months jailtime for snatching money from a woman who had called him “handsome.”

The accused, Lungelo Mlotshwa, appeared before the Pigg’s Peak Magistrate’s Court charged with theft after taking E360 from a woman identified as Nonhlanhla Dlamini.

In court, Mlotshwa claimed that Dlamini had “proposed love” to him while he was under the influence of alcohol. He said he decided to test the sincerity of her affection by asking for E20 to buy a beer. When she refused and allegedly flashed the money in his face, he grabbed it and ran away.

Magistrate ruled that regardless of the circumstances, Mlotshwa’s actions constituted theft and ordered him to pay the fine or serve imprisonment in default.
