Blantyre – President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has addressed growing criticism over the absence of women in his recent ministerial appointments.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed ministers and senior government officials held at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on Wednesday afternoon, Mutharika acknowledged public concern about gender imbalance in his selections.
He told the gathering that he was aware of the comments questioning his choices and reiterated the need to ensure women are given equal space to contribute to the country’s development.
The ceremony was conducted by the Director of Civil Litigation in the Ministry of Justice, Richard Santhe, who administered the oaths and confirmed that all legal requirements were met.
