MBABANE – The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Phila Buthelezi, has tasked the newly appointed Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) board with making the conversion of the fund their top priority as they begin their three-year term.
Buthelezi said the conversion process was central to securing the financial future of Emaswati, including both formal and informal sector workers. He said pension funds play a critical role in driving national development, noting that countries with strong pension systems often record faster economic growth.
“The board must drive the conversion process until it is achieved because this bill will safeguard the future of Emaswati, both the employed and the self-employed,” he said.
The Minister was speaking during the unveiling of the new board, which takes over following the expiry of the previous term last month. He said it was crucial to appoint the new board without delay to maintain continuity and stability in the fund’s operations.
The board is chaired by Derrick Shiba, with Business Eswatini Chief Executive Officer, E. Nathi Dlamini, serving as deputy chairperson. Other members include Makhosini Mndawe, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security; Tokie Hou from Business Eswatini; Phila Mthethwa from TUCOSWA; Wonder Mkhonza from ATUSWA; Themba Dlamini from FESBEC; Khanyisile Dube from the Ministry of Finance; and Kingdom Mamba, the Acting Labour Commissioner.
