A Taiwanese delegation visited Eswatini on Tuesday, 30 September 2025, to explore tourism opportunities and strengthen ties between the two countries. The familiarization trip, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), is part of efforts to develop sustainable tourism under the Co-Prosperity Project.
Seventeen participants, including members of the Travel Agent Association of ROC, Taiwan, and nine travel agencies, met with Eswatini’s Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Mkhonta-Simelane. The delegation also toured local attractions such as African tribal communities, an open range zoo, arts and handicraft centres, and the world’s second-largest rock.

Deputy Director of the Department of West Asian and African Affairs, Chen Yung-po, said the team’s professional knowledge will help evaluate potential tourism collaborations and develop travel packages featuring events like the Buganu Festival, the Reed Dance, Incwala Day, and the nation’s wildlife, including the Big Five.
Taiwan and Eswatini have maintained diplomatic relations for 57 years, and MOFA says the partnership will continue to expand under its integrated diplomacy framework.
Separately, Taiwan continues discussions with South Africa over Pretoria’s demand to relocate its representative office to Johannesburg and downgrade its status. Talks focus on protecting Taiwan’s national interests and maintaining mutual respect, following a temporary halt to planned export controls for South Africa-bound goods.
