Health Minister – We respect people’s right to decide on treatment, BUT…

Mbabane: Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi has urged nation to comply with treatment measures regarding coronavirus outbreak.

Nkosi was speaking regarding the death of the 54-year-old woman who died of COVID-19 related illness who was reportedly reluctant to be attended by health care workers and refusing to be evacuated to a health facility.

“We respect people’s rights to say no to certain types of treatment, but we want to emphasize that we are dealing with a contagious disease here, therefore people must comply with government treatment measures.” Nkosi said.

Minister Nkosi appealed to the nation to obey because that is very important. She said her ministry respect people’s rights as enshrined in the Constitution but it is important that we work together because it’s in our hands to protect ourselves.

On another note, the total number of infections confirmed in Eswatini has passed the 500 mark, as 16 new cases were confirmed on Monday. The exact total number of cases recorded in Eswatini is now 506 as of June 15.

Nkosi announced that the ministry received 174 results, of which 158 came out negative and 16 tested positive. The newly confirmed cases comprise of 12 cases from Manzini region, two from Hhohho region and one from Lubombo region.

Manzini still stands as the epicenter of the pandemic as there are 304 total cases recorded in the region which can be translated as to over 60 percent of the total confirmed cases in the kingdom.
