Eswatini confirm 1st Woman death of COVID-19

Mbabane: A 54 year-old woman has been confirmed to be a 4th COVID-19 death after she resisted attendance by health care workers and refusing to be evacuated to a health facility.

Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi announced the death of the woman on Ministerial statement issued on Sunday. Nkosi said the woman was confirmed to be positive on June 9 and she died at home after being reluctant to be attended by health care workers, despite several attempts to counsel and evacuate her to a health care facility.

According to a Ministerial statement issued by the Health Minister on June 9, the deceased was case number 369 and upon her confirmation to be COVID-19 positive she presented mild disease.

On June 8 Independent News reported a global study that most men are dying or infected by COVID-19 and in Eswatini that has been observed as the first death was reported on the 15th of April followed by another one on the 5th of May, followed by another one on the 29th May 2020 and the then this on June 14. All the first three deaths were all men and then this one being the only woman to die of COVID-19 in the country.

In addition to that, the Minister further announced four (4) New Cases and two (2) recoveries, bringing the total number of cases to 490 and total number of recoveries to 249.

Nkosi urged senior citizens to fully comply to hospital admission arrangements when they have been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive because that is very important to their health as it may be compromised by age and other underlying sicknesses.
