Ezulwini – Outgoing MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wandile Mtshali said the corporation is working closely with the police to combat cybercrime and round facata culprits, scammers.
Mtshali on his probably last interaction with journalists as MTN Eswatini CEO at the Mahlalekhukhwini House in Ezulwini said while there was a time the mobile telephony was able to deal with such conduct in the past, scammers have also scaled up sophisticated conning means against their customers.
He said it was evident that the collaboration with the police has led to a number of bofacata arrests and prosecutions, adding that 20 years ago, efforts to make sure cybercrime was under control, partly due to the use of burner phones.
“I think if you look at the amounts that were being exposed in the last year, previous years, up to now, we can actually see that we’ve gone a long way in trying to make sure that we can cut this issue off. Actually, working very closely with the police, and when we cooperated with them, we changed a few processes around how to report an amount and how to investigate it, et cetera, et cetera,” Mtshali said.
MTN Eswatini which boasts of over 90% coverage said that there is now more information sharing and they now have experience on how to work on it and make sure that it is useful and strengthen cyber security.
Mtshali said their aim is to make sure that the company protects its customers, the information that customers are exposed to, and continuously educate them about what they need to do to protect themselves.
