Manzini hosted the African Women’s Peace and Development Foundation (AWPDF) International Peace Day Commemoration on 30 September 2025 at the American Spaces, Manzini Library. The event brought together local and continental stakeholders to engage in discussions on peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
The celebration included both physical and virtual participation. The Tanzanian Ambassador joined virtually, while representatives from Mozambique’s Instituto para Democracia attended in person from Maputo. Senator Linda Nxumalo-Dlamini was present, supporting the foundation’s ongoing peace dialogue initiatives.
ACCORD delivered a virtual presentation from KwaZulu-Natal, outlining their conflict resolution projects available in nine South African languages. The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Lwandle Simelane, delivered the UN statement, while Thandwa Dlamini represented the Deputy Prime Minister’s Gender Office, sharing updates on the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
Local organisations such as CANGO, the Human Rights Commission, Women Unlimited, and the Muslim Women’s Organisation participated in the event. Founding members Poppy Khoza and Dr Bongile Putsuoa were acknowledged for their continued leadership. Support was also received from IWPG, faith-based groups, the Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the American Embassy, which provided the venue and logistical assistance.
