Mbabane – Enactus University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Luyengo clinched a top 16 finish at the prestigious Enactus World Cup 2025 over the weekend, making history for the small kingdom nation in southern Africa in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Enactus UNESWA Luyengo team made their first entry into the top 16 since 2021 at the event held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 with their flagship initiative, Nutri Plume.
This project focuses on converting poultry feather waste into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer, addressing agricultural waste, enhancing soil fertility, and fostering green employment opportunities within the community.
Team Enactus UNESWA Luyengo competed in a challenging three-team League Room, facing off against formidable opponents: Enactus Korea from Kangwon National University and Enactus Cardiff University, representing the UK and Ireland.
Enactus Korea introduced GoWith Solutions, an innovative project that transforms invasive Prickly Lettuce into eco-friendly fertilizer. This initiative aims to support drought-affected farming communities and restore soil health.
Enactus Cardiff University showcased Spiruflow, a pioneering algae-based Direct Air Carbon Capture (DACC) system. Utilizing photobioreactors, Spiruflow absorbs CO₂ from the atmosphere and converts it into oxygen, offering a low-energy, scalable climate solution.
Judges lauded all teams for their ingenuity, business acumen, and unwavering commitment to creating measurable social impact, underscoring the event’s role as a platform for entrepreneurial action towards a better world.
Enactus UNESWA Luyengo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wiseman Masika expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment.
“Getting Eswatini back into the top 16 after four years is a huge honour. Last year, we were gutted when we didn’t make it, and this feels like redemption,” Masika said.
“Competing alongside world-class teams like Korea and the UK pushed us to prepare even more once we arrived in Thailand because their innovations are also quite brilliant and worthy of bagging this win too. We leave Bangkok inspired and ready to take Nutri Plume to the next level.”
Sabelo Dlamini, Country Director at Enactus Eswatini, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the broader implications of the achievement.
“We are immensely proud of team Enactus UNESWA Luyengo for qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Enactus World Cup in Thailand. This milestone is a powerful reminder of the incredible potential our youth in Eswatini have to shape their own future. Reaching this stage for the first time in five years makes the achievement even more remarkable. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our partners and sponsors whose unwavering support has made this possible. Together, we can continue to uplift our young leaders and showcase Eswatini’s greatness on the global stage,” he said.
Looking ahead, Enactus UNESWA Luyengo aims to evolve Nutri Plume into a commercially viable enterprise, attract strategic partners and investors, and inspire more young people across Eswatini to embrace entrepreneurship as a powerful tool for solving critical societal challenges.
