Victoria, Seychelles – Honourable Justice Andrew Nyirenda, former Chief Justice of Malawi, led the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) in observing Seychelles’ Presidential and National Assembly elections on Mahe Island on Saturday. The team included members of the SADC Organ Troika and the SADC Secretariat.

Observers were present at multiple polling stations, including English River Secondary School, Bel Eau Primary School, Glacis Primary School, St. Louis Belonie Secondary School, Cascade Primary School, and Au Cap Primary School. The SEOM team monitored the opening of polls, the voting process throughout the day, and the closing and counting procedures in the evening.

SEOM deployed observers across all twenty-five districts of Seychelles, including Mahe, Praslin, La Digue, and the Inner Islands, to assess the elections against the 2021 SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
