Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Miguel Reisinho, joining the club days after fellow countryman Nuno Santos was signed.
The 26-year-old joins the Chloorkop-based side as a free agent after leaving Boavista in July, where he faced a challenging season in Portugal’s top flight. Details of his contract with Sundowns have not yet been disclosed.
Reisinho is the fourth addition to Sundowns’ squad this season following Faawaz Basadien, Katlego Ntsabeleng, and Nuno Santos. The club is looking to strengthen its midfield after a slow start to the Betway Premiership season, which included a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows on Wednesday. Sundowns now sit two points behind league leaders Sekhukhune United, having played one extra game, complicating their pursuit of a ninth consecutive league title.
Reisinho spent part of his youth development at Vitoria Guimaraes, a former club of Nuno Santos, and the two players have shared the field for Portugal’s Under-18, Under-19, and Under-20 national teams. Their history could help Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso form a strong midfield partnership.
The Portuguese midfielder also previously played alongside Durban City FC’s Haashim Domingo at Vitoria Guimaraes B. Sundowns are set to face Richards Bay FC on Saturday, with Reisinho potentially making his debut following Santos’ first appearance against Golden Arrows.
