Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs and head coach Nasredine Nabi have reportedly agreed to part ways, following a challenging personal period for the Tunisian coach, iDiski Times reports.
The decision comes a day after Chiefs suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Sekhukhune United at the FNB Stadium, marking their first loss of the season after four wins and one draw in the opening five Betway Premiership matches.
According to iDiski Times, Nabi requested to leave the club to return to Tunisia, where his wife is recovering from a recent car accident. The coach had previously been granted compassionate leave, missing the first three games of the campaign.
Nabi, who ended Chiefs’ decade-long trophy drought by winning the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup, will not lead the team in their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round match against Angolan side Kabuscorp S.C.P. Complications regarding his coaching licence also contributed to the separation. Although Nabi holds a UEFA Pro License, he needed a CAF equivalent to sit on the bench for inter-club tournaments this season.
Assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kadze, who guided the team to three consecutive wins during Nabi’s absence, are expected to lead the squad in Angola. It remains unclear whether they will continue for the rest of the season or if a new head coach will be appointed.
Nabi had been appointed Chiefs head coach in July last year and brought the club its first domestic trophy in over a decade, though he was unable to secure a top-eight finish in other competitions.
