Soweto, South Africa – Jaden Deltel fired a six-under-par 66 on Tuesday to claim a one-stroke lead in the seventh event of the Betway Big Easy Tour at Soweto Country Club.
The Bryanston golfer made a strong start with birdies on the first, third, and fourth holes, adding another on the ninth to complete the front nine bogey-free in 31. Deltel continued his momentum after the turn with a birdie on the 10th, though he dropped a shot on the par-five 13th. He recovered with two more birdies to finish the round at 66.
“Soweto is in good condition,” Deltel said. “You have to hit it straight here, and around the greens you need to be sharper. My caddie Jono and I strategised well, and even when the wind picked up on the back nine, I managed it well.”
Close behind are England’s Harry Konig and Australia’s Austin Bautista, both posting rounds of 67 with six birdies and a bogey on the par-three seventh. Dillon Germishuys is solo fourth after a four-under 68.
A group of five players—Joe Sullivan, Matthew Rushton, Travis Procter, Daniel Cronje, and local favorite Irvin Mazibuko—are tied for fifth on 69. Rounds of two-under 70 put Andre de Decker, Trevor Mahoney, Carl Mwale, and veteran Brandon Pieters in the top 10.
The 54-hole Betway Big Easy Tour serves as the Sunshine Tour’s feeder circuit and enjoys support from patrons including golfing legend Ernie Els.
