Johannesburg – The long-term single cab Isuzu D-Max has finally taken on its first light task, hauling two empty wine barrels from The Citizen offices in Craighall Park to Kyalami, South Africa. This report comes courtesy of Charl Bosch, motoring journalist at The Citizen in South Africa.

Despite covering only 337 km since the last update, the bakkie handled the barrels easily, maintaining a fuel consumption of around 10 litres per 100 km. Its 2 330 mm loadbin and 1 205 kg carrying capacity suggest it is ready for heavier jobs in the future.

Later this month, the D-Max is scheduled for a more demanding assignment: helping move a house in the Free State. The trip will cover roughly 575 km round trip from Johannesburg, including travel over poorly maintained roads notorious for potholes, providing a real test of its ride quality and durability.

Interior looks basic, but still has ample features for what is still a workhorse bakkie.

The top-spec LS single cab comes equipped with air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, a four-speaker sound system, a multi-function steering wheel, and a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

This upcoming house-moving task will be one of the D-Max’s final assignments before returning to Isuzu, giving the bakkie a chance to prove its credentials as a reliable workhorse.
