Mbabane – A delegation from the Namibian Disability Council yesterday paid a courtesy call on Acting Deputy Prime Minister Jane Mkhonta Simelane at the DPM’s Boardroom in Mbabane.
The four-member team, led by Mr. Hashoongo, Chairperson of Namibia’s National Federation of Persons with Disabilities, is in the country to strengthen regional collaboration on disability inclusion. The visit seeks to formalise ties between Namibia’s Disability Council and Eswatini’s national disability coordination bodies while exchanging strategies on inclusive policies, programming, and capacity-building for Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
Technical talks also focused on aligning with continental and global frameworks such as the African Disability Protocol (ADRP) and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
Acting DPM Simelane reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to making disability inclusion a national priority through the National Disability Policy and the work of the National Disability Advisory Council. She said government continues to expand opportunities in education, healthcare, and employment to ensure persons with disabilities are not excluded from the country’s development agenda.
UNFPA representative Thamari Silindza assured support towards safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities, while Dr. Ngcebo Mbuli, Chairperson of the National Advisory Council, said the engagement created space for meaningful collaboration and exchange of best practices, pointing to Namibia’s advancements in promoting disability rights and wellbeing.
