Johannebsurg – South African specialist SVI Engineering has upgraded the Ford Ranger Raptor with a B6 armouring package, offering full protection against assault rifles including AK47, R1 and R5 rounds. Previously limited to B4 handgun protection, the new B6 package is the first Ford-approved civilian assault-rifle protection solution for the high-performance bakkie.
The concealed B6 package provides 360-degree coverage of the passenger cell, including doors, pillars, windows, and critical under-bonnet components like the battery and ABS unit. Armoured materials include 38mm curved glass and high-grade steel plates, with overlapping panels designed to minimise ballistic gaps.
SVI Engineering overcame the Raptor’s payload limitations by increasing its gross vehicle mass, allowing the 2.5-inch FOX live-valve shock absorbers and uprated springs to handle the extra weight. The twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, producing 292kW and 583Nm, maintains strong performance even with the B6 armour installed.
The company offers finance through Ford Credit and retains the vehicle’s warranty and service plans. Build times range from two weeks for partial “SVI LITE” armour to three months for the full B6 package. Pricing starts at R64 950 for the partial kit, R588 730 for B4 discreet armour, and R891 735 for the full B6 package, excluding the base vehicle.
SVI Engineering also provides packages for the Ford Everest SUV and semi-discreet armouring solutions for the security industry.
