Mbabane – Linda Mnisi, 36, and Siyabonga Dlamini, 32, have been convicted on two counts of assault under the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018 after pleading guilty.
Mnisi was charged with assaulting his girlfriend, Vuyisile Shongwe, after finding her with another man. The court heard that he struck her with fists and kicks while under the influence of alcohol.
Both Mnisi and Dlamini were also charged with common assault for attacking Siyabonga Jele. Court evidence showed the men poured alcohol over Jele’s blankets while he slept, then assaulted him with fists and kicks. Both admitted their actions were influenced by intoxication.
During mitigation, Mnisi asked for leniency, citing prior beating by community police and his mother’s hospitalisation. Dlamini requested mercy, stating the family had since resolved the matter.
Magistrates sentenced each man to a fine of E5,000 or five years imprisonment for the first count, with E3,000 or three years suspended for three years on condition of no further offences. For the second count, each received a fine of E2,000 or two years imprisonment.
