Mbabane – Mbabane magistrates court has sentenced Abraham Dlamini, 32, following his arrest for assault and illegal possession of dagga seedlings.
Dlamini faced two charges: assaulting Maybongwe Nkambule and being found with a plastic bag of dagga seedlings without a licence. The incident occurred in Mangwaneni, where Dlamini allegedly threatened Nkambule with a knife.
The complainant told the court that he was attacked without provocation. Dlamini denied carrying a weapon or threatening Nkambule but admitted to the assault, saying he was emotionally overwhelmed after seeing Nkambule walking in the streets with his child.
He told the court he had done “a bad thing” and apologised, noting that he supports four children and his mother. Regarding the dagga seedlings, Dlamini said they belonged to the owner of the room where he was temporarily staying and denied involvement in the dagga trade, adding that he works as a gardener at Hilltop.
The court sentenced Dlamini to pay a fine of E500 or serve five months for assault, and E300 or two months for unlawful possession of dagga seedlings. Both sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will either pay a total of E800 or serve up to seven months in prison.
