Johannesburg – Tata Motors has expanded its line-up in South Africa with the launch of the Punch, an entry-level crossover that has already proved to be India’s best-selling car of 2024. The new model was unveiled at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring, where it was displayed alongside the Tiago hatchback, Curvv and Harrier.
Built on Tata’s Arc platform, the Punch is offered in five trim levels, all powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 65kW and 115Nm. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated manual transmission, with fuel consumption claimed at 5.3 L/100 km and 5.6 L/100 km respectively.
Measuring 3 827 mm in length, 1 615 mm in height and 1 742 mm in width, the crossover offers a wheelbase of 2 445 mm, ground clearance of 187 mm and boot space of 366 litres. Seating capacity is five, placing the Punch within the compact crossover category.

Standard features on the base Adventure model include 15-inch steel wheels, a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear air vents, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, electric mirrors and parking sensors.
Higher trims bring more premium fittings. The Adventure+ S adds push-button start, a reverse camera, rain-sensing wipers and a sunroof. The Accomplished+ introduces alloy-styled wheels, LED daytime running lights, cruise control and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity. At the top, the Creative+ gains 16-inch alloy wheels, a tyre pressure monitor, rear armrest and leather-trimmed finishes.
