MBABANE – The 8BET Trade Fair Cup took an unexpected turn over the weekend after Eswatini’s traditional giants Mbabane Highlanders, Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers were all knocked out in the Last 16.
Manzini Wanderers were the first to tumble, losing 2-0 to Green Mamba in a match that exposed the Weslians’ lack of sharpness in front of goal.
Swallows then followed in dramatic fashion after their clash with Manzini Sea Birds ended 1-1. The tie went to penalties where Sea Birds held their composure to win 2-1.
The biggest upset came when Ezulwini United stunned Mbabane Highlanders with a 2-0 victory, eliminating one of the top favourites for the title. The result left supporters shocked as the Black Bull bowed out much earlier than expected.
