The Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA), working with the International Trade Centre (ITC), Indalo Eswatini and a delegation from The Gambia, has begun a programme to strengthen community-based tourism in eJubukweni and other rural areas.
The initiative, which also covers Shewula, Ekuvinjelweni, Jilobi and Mhlumeni, is focused on helping communities create governance models to manage local itineraries, set fair pricing structures and develop digital content for sustainable tourism projects.
Training sessions have included practical discussions on hygiene standards, food safety and the organisation of local menus for visitors. Community members were also engaged on their roles in tourism operations and on how revenue generated will be shared fairly among households.
As part of the programme, participants took part in a familiarisation tour designed to give them first-hand experience of running and promoting their own community-based tourism ventures.
