MBABANE – Students at the Emergency Medical Rescue College (EMRC) have submitted a petition to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security over book allowances, which they claim are wrongly deposited into the school’s account instead of their personal accounts.

The petition, delivered this week, comes amid frustration that students have been left without access to learning materials due to the arrangement. One student, who preferred anonymity, said the matter was first highlighted in the Ministry’s programme on 4 August 2025, which stated that book allowances for learners at Emergency Medical Rescue College and Botho University were deposited directly to the institutions.

The student explained that when learners sought clarity from the school, management denied claiming the allowance funds, leaving students confused about where the money was going. “We even requested the school to draft a letter and accompany the SRC members to the Ministry, but the school failed to do so,” the student said.

The Principal Secretary in the Ministry assured students that a meeting would soon be convened with the college management to resolve the matter.
