Accra – Former South African president Jacob Zuma has described the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party as the “only true hope” for completing the liberation of South Africans, during a lecture in Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday.
Zuma, leader of the MK Party, addressed students and guests at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) as part of the institution’s eighth Annual Leadership Lecture. He positioned the party as a continuation of South Africa’s liberation struggle, arguing that its manifesto, the People’s Mandate, tackles economic freedom, land and resource control, human capital development, security, and national sovereignty.
He criticised South Africa’s Government of National Unity, describing it as “compromised,” and contrasted it with the MK Party’s mission to secure full freedom, dignity, and prosperity for South Africans. Zuma urged Africans to reject foreign influence and unite, warning against “dancing to foreign drums” amid global economic shifts such as de-dollarisation and BRICS currency strategies.
Zuma also praised the South Africa-Ghana bilateral relationship, citing more than 20 agreements in trade, defence, agriculture, and ICT, and commended Ghana’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan in the Western Sahara dispute.
He called on African nations to innovate and produce leaders, inventors, and builders rather than serve foreign corporations, linking this to broader movements towards African self-reliance and multipolarity.
