Manzini – The Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) president Mbongwa Dlamini has announced the shifting of the annual World Teachers’ Day commemoration in Eswatini to October 24 in Manzini as it turns 97 years old since established.
While the World Teachers Day is normally celebrated on 5 October, Dlamini said the shift in the commemoration gives them time to do a double celebration as SNAT also marks its 97th anniversary.
Dlamini made the announcement on Wednesday at the SNAT Centre in Manzini but said the venue for the celebrations will be confirmed at a later stage.
He appealed for sponsorship of the event from the business community and benevolent others, noting that October would be a good month for business as teachers are set to receive their bumper pay, commonly referred to as dvula dvula.
SNAT revealed to have already reached out to several businesses for support. However they have cast their net wider to every business and doors remain open for a direct approach engagement.
The SNAT Secretary General, Lot Vilakati, also said this year’s celebrations will mirror those of the previous year, with teachers once again treated to an after party session.
Vilakati said the organising committee has engaged New Life Entertainment to handle the festivities, promising that the entertainment company will later return to brief teachers on the logistics of the after party.
Vilakati added that the after party was included in response to requests from teachers, showing that the association values and listens to its members.
Vilakati further announced that special T-shirts will be available for the celebrations. Members of SNAT will pay E80 for the shirts, while non-members will be charged E230.
