Mbabane – GWM South Africa has rolled out a striking update to its P500 bakkie, swapping the bright chrome accents for blacked-out exterior touches. The refreshed look includes a gloss black grille, black roof rails and mirrors, smoked glass headlamps, and black styling bars, giving the five-metre-long double-cab a bolder presence on the road.
Floyd Ramabulana, head of marketing at GWM South Africa, said the redesign reflects the P500’s performance and innovation, offering a modern, standout appearance.
The P500 comes with two powertrain options: a 2.4-litre turbodiesel producing 135kW/480Nm, and a 2.0T petrol-electric hybrid (HEV) delivering 255kW and 648Nm. Both variants feature nine-speed automatic transmissions and standard 4×4 capability, with towing capacities ranging from 3 350kg to 3 500kg. Selectable low-range gears, front and rear diff locks, and a 3 350mm wheelbase enhance its off-road performance.
Inside, the cabin combines luxury with utility. Black Nappa leather trims premium front and rear seats, which include heating, ventilation, massage functions, and independent climate control for rear passengers. Infotainment options feature 12.3- or 14.6-inch screens, a 10-speaker Harman Infinity system, wireless charging, and a sunroof.
Safety technology is comprehensive, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Fatigue Monitoring, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system, Rear Cross-Traffic Warning, and Front Collision Warning.
Pricing in South Africa starts at R799 900 for the 2.4T Luxury variant, R889 900 for Super Luxury, and R999 900 for the 2.0T HEV Ultra Luxury. All models include a seven-year/200 000km warranty, with extended high-voltage battery coverage for HEV variants.
