Tokyo – On August 20, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe for a 20-minute summit in Tokyo during the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
The leaders discussed ways to deepen bilateral economic relations and expand opportunities for Japanese investment in Zimbabwe. Prime Minister Ishiba announced Japan’s plans to provide food aid, support agricultural infrastructure development in demined areas, and assist with landmine clearance to unlock Zimbabwe’s agricultural potential.
Japan also requested continued cooperation for the stable trade of Zimbabwean petalite. President Mnangagwa expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and affirmed his commitment to working with Japanese companies to attract further investment.
The summit concluded with both leaders agreeing to strengthen collaboration on international issues, including reforms at the United Nations Security Council.
