Manzini- Mental health and its impact on society will take centre stage at a public dialogue hosted by Love Your Mind (LYM) on Friday, August 29, at the American Corner Library in Manzini. The free event, scheduled from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM, will examine how mental illness affects crime rates, generational behaviours, and wider community dynamics.
The dialogue, titled When Africa Opens Up, will bring together experts to discuss the role of mental health in shaping social patterns. LYM founder and psychologist Sisekelo Nkosi will lead the discussion, alongside Nation magazine Editor-in-Chief Bheki Makhubu and counsellor and lecturer NS Nxumalo. The speakers will share insights grounded in both professional experience and practical engagement with mental health issues.
Media personality Simangaliso Gama will moderate the session, while artist Simiso Simelane will provide a performance intended to complement the discussion.
Nkosi said the event aims to encourage open conversations about the often-overlooked links between mental illness and social problems. “Mental illness is often the silent architect of crime and social dysfunction,” he said, highlighting the need for awareness and informed approaches to community challenges.
The event is open to the public, with students, professionals, and community leaders encouraged to attend.
