MBABANE – Re-elected Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter “Samora” Simelane has been given another four years to lead the organization after a decisive victory at the Ordinary General Assembly in Mbabane.
Simelane successfully fended off a challenge from former vice president Mashumi Shongwe, securing the presidency with 27 votes to Shongwe’s 21. The results were announced by the EFA Electoral Committee Chairman, Siphosini Dlamini, prompting a quick exit from the venue by the defeated Shongwe.
In his victory speech, Simelane thanked the delegates for their trust, pledging to deliver on his mandate and work towards improving football in Eswatini.
In addition to the presidential race, the assembly elected new members to the EFA’s executive committee. Nkosingiphile Shongwe, the Hhohho Regional Football Association General Secretary, and Steve Horton were chosen as the two vice presidents. Nkosingiphile Shongwe led the way with 31 votes, while Horton received 26, beating out three other contenders.
The two available seats for executive committee members went to Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela, who garnered 36 votes, and Sicelo Nene, who finished with 29. Phumzile Dlamini was also elected to the women’s seat on the committee, defeating Sindi Dludlu by a vote of 29 to 17.
The newly elected officials will join existing members to form the 13-member EFA executive committee.
