Accra – Lesotho’s Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi, is in Ghana on a working visit aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries in the digital and creative sectors.
The visit, held on 13 August 2025, saw Minister Moorosi meet her Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Nartey George, where several areas of cooperation were identified. These include sharing expertise on e-government services, policy frameworks and joint workshops, as well as developing exchange programmes in cybersecurity, data management and digital innovation.
The two ministers also discussed joint research in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and Big Data. Plans are underway for technology and infrastructure development projects to improve internet connectivity, along with support for entrepreneurs in sectors such as fintech, health tech and agritech.
Moorosi noted that Ghana’s experience in taxing digital platforms like Netflix, DSTV and Showmax could help Lesotho boost revenue. She said systems will also be created to ensure Basotho content creators are able to monetise their work online.
During the visit, the Minister will tour Ghana’s Cybersecurity Authority to learn about its systems for protecting digital spaces. There are also plans to exchange television content between the two countries, opening opportunities for jobs in dubbing and translation.
She further raised concern over the growing threat of AI-generated videos used to discredit leaders and defraud citizens, saying Lesotho is investing in detection tools and public awareness campaigns to combat misinformation.
Moorosi expressed gratitude to Ghanaian YouTuber Wodemaya, whose work has promoted Lesotho internationally, and said exchanges of content creators could help advance tourism promotion.
